What difference between optical power meter and PON optical power meter?

As an essential basic testing tool in the construction and maintenance of optical communication network, we believe that we are not unfamiliar with optical power meters, especially the little guys working in the assembly and maintenance line, which are one of the tools commonly available in the package. Do you know the difference between ordinary optical power meter and PON power meter? Today, Fusion splicer store will give you a simple science popularization.

From the appearance, the ordinary optical power meter has only one test optical port, while the PON optical power meter has two. This is because the PON optical power meter needs to be connected to the PON network line in series during the test, so two test optical ports are required, one is connected to the 1490nm optical signal sent from the connected OLT, and the other is connected to the 1310nm optical signal sent from the connected ONU. On the other hand, the uplink 1310nm signal sent by the optical cat in the PON network is usually TDMA (Time Division Multiplexing), so the transmitted signal is burst mode. The traditional power meter cannot accurately capture burst signal, so only the PON optical power meter can accurately measure the uplink and downlink signals in the PON network.

Summarize the characteristics of PON optical power meter different from ordinary power meter:

1.The PON power meter can simultaneously measure the optical power of the uplink 1310nm, downlink 1490nm and 1550nm

2.PON power meter can realize online testing of optical power
3.PON power meter can correctly test the upstream 1310nm burst signal optical power
