How to use HSV-110D Otdr for fiber optic fault location?

The HSV-110D OTDR is a 3-in-1 portable OTDR, which integrates OTDR, OPM and VFL functions, enabling fast and accurate fiber fault location for FTTH, data centers and field maintenance.

1. Preparations

  • Disconnect all active devices (OLT, ONU, switch) at both ends of the fiber to avoid instrument damage.
  • Clean the fiber connector end face with alcohol wipe (no dust or oil).
  • Ensure the HSV-110D is fully charged, install the correct connector adapter, and wear laser protection (do not look directly at the optical port).
  • Connect: OTDR test port → adapter jumper → flange → the starting end of the fiber to be tested.

2. Parameter Settings (FTTH Optimal)

  • Wavelength: 1310nm (short distance/joint) or 1550nm (long distance/microbend fault).
  • Test Range: 1.5 times the total length of the fiber (0–20km for FTTH).
  • Pulse Width: 30ns (near-end fault) or 300ns (long-distance).
  • Average Times: 512–1024 (for smooth curve).
  • Refractive Index: 1.4680 (default for single-mode G652.D fiber).

3. Fault Location Steps

  1. Power on and switch to OTDR Mode.
  2. Confirm parameters and click Start Test.
  3. The instrument automatically generates a backscattering curve.
  4. Move the cursor to the abnormal point to get the exact distance, loss and reflection value.
  5. Save the curve and export the fault report.

4. Quick Verification (On-Site)

  • VFL Mode: Switch to VFL, the red light (650nm) will leak at the fault point for quick physical location.
  • OPM Mode: Measure the optical power at both ends to verify link connectivity and loss.

5. Notes

  • Do not look directly at the optical port to avoid laser damage to eyes.
  • Re-test after fiber repair to ensure the loss is qualified.
  • Keep the instrument away from moisture and high temperature.
